Joining Texas GMRS Using Your Existing Node
If you are unfamiliar with Linux, Allstar/Hamvoip or know you will need assistance, prior to starting, please schedule a phone call so we can assist you through the process. We may need to remotely connect to your desktop/laptop during this process. – If you need additional support, please Contact Admin Here.
Remember you may need to adapt these instructions to your specific system and configurations. If you encounter any issues, having a backup of the rpt.conf
file allows you to restore the previous configuration.
- Backup Reminder
- Before you begin, please consider making a full backup of your SD card or files. This script will modify important configuration files.
- Access the System:
- Log in to your node using SSH or with physical console access.
- To find your IP address, you can download Port Scanner
- To SSH into your node, you can download PuTTY
- Make sure you node is connected to the internet.
- Ensure you have your New Node # and Password
- You will be asked to enter your old node number, new node number & new password.
- Select the Bash Shell Interface <Option 9>
- Copy & Paste the Following Commands
- After running the script the node should reboot, if the script hang you can use CNTRL+C to cancel the operation and try to re-run the script.

- Verify Changes:
- Check the configuration files to ensure they contain the new node # were updated without errors for the following files:
- /etc/asterisk/rpt.conf
- /etc/asterisk/iax.conf
- /etc/asterisk/extensions.conf
- Verify the entries by typing “crontab -l” for the following files:
- @reboot bash /usr/local/sbin/update-extnodes.sh >/dev/null 2>&1
- @reboot bash /usr/local/sbin/update-astdb.sh >/dev/null 2>&1″

- Check the Supermon page by visiting:

- Ensure your node number and IP address is showing up by visiting:
- Check the configuration files to ensure they contain the new node # were updated without errors for the following files:
- Testing:
- Test the new configurations by connecting to the Texas GMRS Network.
